Quintessentially English

I'll admit that I checked a dictionary to understand this weeks Craft Barn weekly challenge prompt. Quintessence is the fifth essence after earth, fire, air and water... as I understand, it would be the core soul of being English. The challenge text encouraged traditional motifs like tea/garden/beach, but I don't have dainty teacup or garden stamps, nor any beach huts, so I'm voting for humor. Monty Python or Faulty Towers would be great, but I decided to use a selection of Banksy graffiti stamps (VivaLasVegaStamps) to make a set of four ATC:s. I am also posting for the SimonSaysStamp Wednesday challenge (Make Your Own Background).

I made the background by drawing the UnionJack on an acrylic block with Distress Markers and stamping on the ATC card. I tried different approaches: spritzing the acrylic block or the paper both resulted in a purple mess, but huffing on the image before stamping and then spritzing the dry stamped image gave an ok result. The images were stamped with Versamark Onyx Black and embossed with clear embossing powder.

Here is one pair featuring policemen. I wonder if helmets like this are worn anywhere else than in Britain and the Moomin Valley? These belong to the category of stamps I have thought I would never use, but now they've been inked once so my conscience is clear :)

The other pair features environmentally involved girls. I guess they are trying to grow stuff in the centre of some industrialized city... the images might actually be a bit out of date, but I like them, they are part of the reason I bought the sheet (the policemen just happened to be on the same sheet!)

  1. I didn't know that about Quintessence!! Love the Banksy stamps. The police ones are especially great, I used to be a WPC many years ago. The helmets are going now in a lot of our forces. Shame! Thank you once again for joining in The Craft Barn Challenge.
