I wish I could...

We are having guests this weekend, and that means I'm packing away my crafty stuff and the mess it constantly causes... but I can't go without something to do, so I took out my "lightweight" summer project: an altered book for quotes and doodles that I started a few weeks ago. I am posting for the Chocolate Baroque colour challenge (pink, purple, blue and green) and the SimonSaysStamp Monday challenge (for the love of plants).

All the layouts in this book are going to be one-layer, using Micron pens, a white Sharpie and colour pencils. Some have stamping like this one, others have doodles and tangles. I haven't thinned out any pages, so even paint would be too dimensional to use here -I wan't the book to close nicely! This gorgeous quote is from a 12th century Persian poet, and I ran into it on the Our Creative Corner challenge blog. Had to jot it down for myself, and that is just what this book is for!

I had some problems spacing my words, but luckily
the background text provided by the book is quite forgiving!

After deciding to continue this page and link to the CB challenge I chose the lantern-plant and decided to keep it simple, that way both the quote and flower get the attention they deserve! I coloured the page with Derwent coloursoft pencils, mostly using a swirly doodle motion. I added white in and around the lanterns and in the text of the quote to make them pop out.

  5. Ah Kristina, this a truly beautiful piece of altered work, love the lettering and layout, superbly executed ... Thanks for sharing it... The quote reminds me of a verse from Nahum I think it is, " When I sit in darkness the LORD shall be a Light unto me" .
    Your work is very inspiring.
I am belatedly visiting .... thanks for popping over, Shaz in Oz.x
