Night and day revisited

I am loving the "night and day" challenge that the Craft Barn has this week: same image, one coloured for night, one for day... this time I decided to create a spread in my art journal with mirror images on left and right. I have been following DLP prompts in my journal, and this weeks theme is ink sprays... I was just wondering what trouble I would get in, if I adhered tissue stamps onto water soluble ink sprays, when luckily the Paperartsy challenge attacked (ink) sprays with their challenge. After watching their tutorial, I realized that paint sprays would obviously solve my problem :) I am also posting for the Country View challenge (Simply Scenic).

I mixed two blue paint sprays: the right side one is Fresco Finish Carribean Sea combined with Distress Ink Salty Ocean, the left one has Artiste Night Sky and some unknown cobalt blue. The ground is simply Dylusions Sprays in blue and greens.I stamped the balloon basket on the right straight onto the page and the left one on tissue paper, flipped it over and adhered to the page. I had some trouble inking the large stamp evenly, so I used the two tissuepaper missprints I made to mask the image for the stencilling. I was afraid they would tear, but actually it proved a smart mask! The tissuepaper clinged statically to the stencil and came of with it in stead of needing to be peeled from the page, besides it was nice on top of the mirror image too. Here you can see what the prays did to the stenciled texture:

Obviously the dark blue spray (only acrylic paints) worked fine and the texture paste is mostly white. There is some Dylusions After Midnight on that side, and it coloured the stars furthes left. The rays on the right have practically dissapeared as they dried, I suspect the reinker in the spray has something to do with that... And the Dylusions sprays of course coloured the paste I spread on the ground. I replaced the stencils for the stars and rays and dabbed gesso. For the ground I just rubbed the page lightly with the gesso left on the foam and continued with some green Inka Gold spread with a finger tip.

I searched the web to find details on a sentiment I had seen somewhere: "If you want something you have never had, you must do something you have never done" but ran into this one in the process, and realized it would fit my spread much better! If I could change something, I'd start with paper collage and gesso (like I usually do), these sprays leaked badly on both the previous and coming page, and some red from the other side of the right hand page leaked this way too. That would also have brought some texture and interest to the emptier spots in the background. I started thinking about the emptiness too late, and considered stamping with a ledger stamp, but the stenciled paste would have been in the way, so I decided to leave it and try to remember next time!

I managed cut a few strings of the balloon while adhering it...
I'm going to have to get another ray stencil, this TH one is so
narrow it is somewhat limited in the art journal.
I really like how my "ground" became...this is the TCW Sea Bubbles,
perhaps they are flying over the sea after all.

  4. Thanks for leaving a comment on my desk post. When I journal, I leave a page in between blank and glue it together when I am done to stop that colour coming through from the other side. It also stiffens the pages and seems to flatten them. I love the sentiment you were going to use, but the one you did use is even better!
