Since my project fits several other challenges, I'm also linking to the Designs by Ryn customer creations challenge, the Paperartsy challenge (from light to dark, contrasts, layers) and the Country View challenge (Things With Wings). <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">All the links are at the end of this post!</span><div><div><br></div><div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pDeoplT1E70/WXbw5P1rRsI/AAAAAAAAFIQ/nOthxdIxQqAhB1fn4BhsGosG9ACrmDU_ACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image-1837254227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-pDeoplT1E70/WXbw5P1rRsI/AAAAAAAAFIQ/nOthxdIxQqAhB1fn4BhsGosG9ACrmDU_ACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image-1837254227.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I started with a couple of pieces of linen and stamped my images: the pink stamps are from VivaLasVegaStamps and the moth is from Designs By Ryn. Apart from these, I used a layer of white vellum to break the contrast between the kraft and the linen (and because otherwise the kraft would have shown through the linen. All the layers were sewn on a kraft card base.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lp693eAKyCo/WXbxCj0GX0I/AAAAAAAAFIc/33B3CP7ueRUFNjlhc7gp5xsuISTPAOayACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image-825569766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lp693eAKyCo/WXbxCj0GX0I/AAAAAAAAFIc/33B3CP7ueRUFNjlhc7gp5xsuISTPAOayACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image-825569766.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I wasn't planning to do anything complicated, but ended up stitching the moth (and the crosses) with black DMC... it's probably as close to embossing as possible on fabric, and really gives a good contrast against the white. I do think they turned out quite cool, even though embroidery really isn't my cup of tea :) The chippies are star confetti from Umwow Studio, and besides having lovely varied shapes also had the perfect dark kraft colour. I just glued them down and was done!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8bvDeKMPUbw/WXbw8Vn0KlI/AAAAAAAAFIU/oKUC1T6ndesB47X2sbORV7TzNxtKdJQDACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--927566165.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8bvDeKMPUbw/WXbw8Vn0KlI/AAAAAAAAFIU/oKUC1T6ndesB47X2sbORV7TzNxtKdJQDACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--927566165.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AOREiCiPEBY/WXbw_kOx3FI/AAAAAAAAFIY/RwSvJzmYUtYGlV71Kb6D9b3sy6g0oEU0wCHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--492715649.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-AOREiCiPEBY/WXbw_kOx3FI/AAAAAAAAFIY/RwSvJzmYUtYGlV71Kb6D9b3sy6g0oEU0wCHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--492715649.jpg"></a></div><br></div><a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/07/moodaversary-week-1.html">http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/07/moodaversary-week-1.html</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="http://designsbyryn.blogspot.fi/2017/07/july-customer-creation-challnge.html">http://designsbyryn.blogspot.fi/2017/07/july-customer-creation-challnge.html</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/07/2017-topic-10-dark-to-light-and.html">http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/07/2017-topic-10-dark-to-light-and.html</a></div><a href="http://countryviewchallenges.blogspot.fi/2017/07/july-things-with-wings.html">http://countryviewchallenges.blogspot.fi/2017/07/july-things-with-wings.html</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br></div><br></div></div></div>Kristiinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14453195046580674713noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6785411875603717639.post-26455269498617565452017-07-24T11:26:00.001+03:002017-07-24T11:27:21.730+03:00GelliprintsTake 3 for the challenge at Our Mixed Media Moods. The rasberry-image on the moodboard at Our mixed media moods somehow made me think about sequins, and here is the result:<div><br><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uu0x3dFsrPI/WXSUc9Vsg_I/AAAAAAAAFHQ/VeIZPf8Cx_grAzlxqKcWDRnVDOnZWfXFACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--1335427369.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uu0x3dFsrPI/WXSUc9Vsg_I/AAAAAAAAFHQ/VeIZPf8Cx_grAzlxqKcWDRnVDOnZWfXFACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--1335427369.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Find the moodboard and all the other entries here:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/07/moodaversary-week-1.html">http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/07/moodaversary-week-1.html</a></div><br></div><div>I simply cut a square from a double-sided sticky sheet and sprinkled on some sequins, small hexacon stuff, Wow Sparkles (Prom Queen) and some white glitter. I started with the bigger pieces and continued toward the smaller stuff. Quite a mess... the hexagon bits were worst, because they seem to cling to everything! The die-cut is from Lawn Fawn. I wasn't sure the glue on the foampads would adhere to the glitters, so I added a dot of PVA glue to each foam pad and squished the cut in place.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0kRlCQA2wTc/WXSUgAaDjhI/AAAAAAAAFHU/jZxsqdqIv_wTkiNlWFDoUBIewYtmIf85ACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--1825361736.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0kRlCQA2wTc/WXSUgAaDjhI/AAAAAAAAFHU/jZxsqdqIv_wTkiNlWFDoUBIewYtmIf85ACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--1825361736.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div>And one more closeup. I'm planning to see how many of the mood board images I might have time to be inspired by! Here's the moodboard. I started at the top left with the green thread. Entries by other people and linkups to inspirational videos can be found behind the following link: <div><a href="https://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/07/moodaversary-week-1.html">https://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/07/moodaversary-week-1.html</a><br><div><br><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uAZ4qUbiems/WXOJt84soLI/AAAAAAAAFGg/b6tFUepLy88Y9TAXPlsfMNiCt3PXRifTACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--2130695806.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uAZ4qUbiems/WXOJt84soLI/AAAAAAAAFGg/b6tFUepLy88Y9TAXPlsfMNiCt3PXRifTACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--2130695806.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And this is what I started with: cleaning previous clutters from my desk and searching my stash for stuff in the mood board colours...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XGnzf9pSFx8/WXOMFtJQnfI/AAAAAAAAFGw/VJjymm3KbF4bqTlqHUMz18RYmYtnp9xUgCHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--438917953.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XGnzf9pSFx8/WXOMFtJQnfI/AAAAAAAAFGw/VJjymm3KbF4bqTlqHUMz18RYmYtnp9xUgCHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--438917953.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>After pondering different options, I decided to go for a very lightweight CAS look. I'm feeling a bit awkward about not having any stamps and splatters here, but of course I'm glad about using stuff I never used before. My mom dumped those reeds on my craft table about half a year ago. I guess the bundle is supposed to smell of lavender, but doesn't any longer :) I just cut a pinch of the straws in two and sewed them on a 6x6 card base. So just to get me going, I had to pick out some challenges... and Paperartsy always has interesting topics :) This was quite an easy one, Aqua, and I took my inspiration from the challenge post = simply the beautiful colour and the fact that I had a suitable starting point in my junk drawer.<div><br></div><div>Here's the link to the challenge:</div><div><a href="http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/07/2017-topic-9-aqua-introduction-and.html">http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/07/2017-topic-9-aqua-introduction-and.html</a></div><div><br><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-w4xSo0oKslw/WXDqRX86OkI/AAAAAAAAFGM/RfwTP1G_Pycy8Miclf2dZ6tQJAc0-zEoACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--1828228224.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-w4xSo0oKslw/WXDqRX86OkI/AAAAAAAAFGM/RfwTP1G_Pycy8Miclf2dZ6tQJAc0-zEoACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image--1828228224.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I started with a piece of glossy card coloured with alcohol inks. No idea how long it has been lying around! I stamped with Ellen Vargo stamps, embossed with Wow embossing glitters, used some texture paste and splattered paint. The sentiment is from an Emma Godfrey set. This closeup is trying to show of the shimmer of the embossing glitters. I used "Under The Sea" with Versafine ink and "Sparkling Snow" on the texture paste.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CYS28BzvVaI/WXDqUvT1JoI/AAAAAAAAFGQ/v0zIjcrGFOwMybv0dHp_sm6UQJWQB45yACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image-242449188.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CYS28BzvVaI/WXDqUvT1JoI/AAAAAAAAFGQ/v0zIjcrGFOwMybv0dHp_sm6UQJWQB45yACHMYCw/s640/blogger-image-242449188.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div>Kristiinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14453195046580674713noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6785411875603717639.post-83832174796156998912017-04-30T10:19:00.001+03:002017-04-30T10:22:59.385+03:00RustI'm making confirmation invitations for my son, and decided to play with a steampunk CAS look... besides, I just got the Finnabair rust pastes, and I had to try them out :) I'm joining in <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Sandee and Amelie's steampunk challenge and the Country View challenge (rust). Once it was approximately dry, I put it under weight for the night to straighten it out. It has been adhered with foam dots. Love the way it turned out! The moodboard has a mustard theme that fit well with the Yellow Ochre, and I was especially inspired by the photo with lines of stones. I have had something like this in mind for about a month (since I got the background done...) and I'm glad this is done at last!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I want to link this straight away, so here is the link to the Paperartsy challenge: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/03/2017-5-blue-and-ochre-challenge.html">http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/03/2017-5-blue-and-ochre-challenge.html</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And the "Our Mixed Media Moods" linkup:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/03/metaphysical-our-mixed-media-moods.html">http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/03/metaphysical-our-mixed-media-moods.html</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I'm posting this on my tablet, so I can't make a neater link :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s1M6aiJfIkQ/WOkgYD7StFI/AAAAAAAAFEQ/FwR3QFJEImA/s640/blogger-image-1876005274.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s1M6aiJfIkQ/WOkgYD7StFI/AAAAAAAAFEQ/FwR3QFJEImA/s640/blogger-image-1876005274.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PhAxvfUdFI0/WOkgbZEnkiI/AAAAAAAAFEU/Ibcov4UMBRA/s640/blogger-image-1961655439.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PhAxvfUdFI0/WOkgbZEnkiI/AAAAAAAAFEU/Ibcov4UMBRA/s640/blogger-image-1961655439.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The background is a square piece of junk wood that has been covered with book paper and painted with a rylic paints. <br />
The base is a wood panel that I covered with some stamped scrap paper (the squiggly plant is from Designs by Ryn) and coloured with acrylic paints in grey and white and pigment powders. I sprinkled black bister and Paperartsy Sage infusion onto wet paint, spritzed and let dry. I sewed together a pile of fabric and started stitching snowdrops by hand. I was quite surprised how fun that was (I'm not really that interested in embroidery, but knowing the back could be full of strings and jumps made it a bit easier). I found some welding practices in the trash of a metal classroom at school, straightened one out and decided to make it a wonky window.<br />

Actually I felt a bit bad about covering the embroidery. I wanted to add a bit of air to make it possible to see the sewing behind the frame. I nailed four nails so that the frame is on top of them. Right now it's fastened with glue dots, but I think they aren't enough against gravity, so I'll have to figure out something stronger. It's hard to show the dimension with pictures from the front of the project.</div>

Joining in three challenges with this mixed-media card: <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/02/our-mixed-media-moods.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Media Moods</a> (used the colours, blotches, tiles and stars on their moodboard), <a href="http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/02/2017-topic-3-paints-with-infusions.html" target="_blank">Paperartsy</a> (I don't have blue infusions, but used Bister with gloss gel), and <a href="http://sandee-and-amelie.blogspot.fi/2017/02/new-stashforgotten-stash-february.html" target="_blank">SanDee and Amelies steampunk challenge</a> (new stash/forgotten stash, I used my new alcohol inks and a bunch of stuff that's been lying around for ages.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I had an old metal background in my stash. It's aluminium tape on card, and I've embossed it with a stencil from Designs By Ryn. A stencil doesn't give as deep impressions as a folder, but it's a way to get a favourite pattern embossed. I had originally coloured it with light green alcohol inks, and now I took out my new inks in denim, eggplant and slate... I went for a blotchy inky look, but it really didn't work out for me! Still need quite a lot of practice with those inks.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I created the tile effect with gloss gel on waxed kraft paper (Paperartsy). I sprinkled blue bister crystals on the wet gel and got some nice spotty tiles. Then I spritzed with a bunch of sprays, bothe mica and not. Both the paper and the gel resist the colours, but ... it just works anyway. I dried the sprays with my heat gun, and tore a piece of suitable size.</div>

<div class="" style="clear: both;">
I sewed together my papers and some metal stars that I've dug from a trash bin (there's a metal-company near us, they make lanterns with star-shaped openings... and throw away the cutout stars!). I decided to sew the stars in place, perhaps gel medium would have worked too, but I think this is quite cool.</div>

I twirled the twine several times wondering how I could get it to work without bulging the card. This was the best I came up with: pieces of corrugated cardboard so there is space for the bundle of twine. I laid this on my card base under pressure for a while before adding the dimensional Finnabair stars.</div>

A quick card for the VivaLasVegaStamps Graffiti -themed <a href="http://vivalas.blogspot.fi/2017/02/time-for-februarys-challenge-think-of.html" target="_blank">February challenge</a> (splatters, drips, dots, orange, banksy...) and the Country View crafts <a href="http://countryviewchallenges.blogspot.fi/2017/02/february-2017-time-challenge-30-minutes.html" target="_blank">February challenge</a> (time challenge, max 30 minutes). Had a bit of a hurry with the embossing and fussy cutting, but the background was a ready piece from my stash :)</div>

I just love this little Banksy rat balancing on a chain. I heat embossed him with black embossing ink, continued the line of the chain first with a black marker, then with an embossing pen and embossing powder. A touch of fussy cutting, and my focal point was ready. It has been mounted on thin strips of foam tape. The background is from last summer: Brusho colours dripped and dropped on ink jet photo paper. Love the effect! I stamped the background with stamps from VivaLasVegaStamps and Archival inks in black and grey.</div>

The <a href="http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2017/02/2017-topic-2-masks-challenge.html" target="_blank">Paperartsy challenge</a> for thee pat 3 weeks has been asking for masks. After wondering how I could find time to do something for the challenge, I realized that I actually have this WIP notebook. It's small, about A5, and I gelliprinted all the pages before starting to doodle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L7N0MUn4nGo/WLKUa01fMrI/AAAAAAAAE_4/Yapn9bHBt_4/s640/blogger-image-1128652167.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L7N0MUn4nGo/WLKUa01fMrI/AAAAAAAAE_4/Yapn9bHBt_4/s640/blogger-image-1128652167.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used acrylic paints and a few masks (swirls, a doily and some blobs on sticks) and a dot stencil. </div>

My idea is to use this notebook for doodles. I started <a href="http://rae-missigman.squarespace.com/blog?category=art%20marks" target="_blank">Rae Missigmans Art marks-challenge</a>. It's long past, and I haven't done all thirty of the marks, but I'll continue filling in the pages (and perhaps later find out what more I want to do with them. The gelli-printing gives a nice tarting point, I'd feel quite intimidated with the blank page, since doodling is out of my comfort zone. </div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
A last take on the fabuluos mood board at <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/01/wild-our-mixed-media-moods.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Media Moods</a>. I used the gorgeous deep red, the lead grey, fibres and butterflies. I'm also posting for the Designs By Ryn <a href="http://designsbyryn.blogspot.fi/2017/02/february-customer-creation-challenge.html" target="_blank">customer creations challenge</a> and the Craft Stamper <a href="http://craftstamper.blogspot.fi/2017/02/take-it-make-it-challenge-february.html" target="_blank">Take it Make it challenge</a> (anything with stamping goes). I usually do cards and work in my art journal, but this is a wall hanging (as soon as I find a way to hang it up...)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-112UT2oXg9M/WKmN_brKuzI/AAAAAAAAE-8/HLIgfLZ58Ks/s640/blogger-image-1544276479.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-112UT2oXg9M/WKmN_brKuzI/AAAAAAAAE-8/HLIgfLZ58Ks/s640/blogger-image-1544276479.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
On Thursday evenings I have a furniture class, where I'm working on fixing an old sofa. The class is tought in secondary school craft classrooms, and I dug into the trash bins in the woodwork room (found some nice square panels) and in the metalwork room, where some students had been practising welding... from trash to treasure that is! I covered the wood with bookpaper and painted over it with acrylic paints (golden quinacridone crimson, magenta and violet) and layered on some fabric and the metal square. These were simply fastened with some small nails.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c3AO1zPV4ac/WKmOCBrX_aI/AAAAAAAAE_A/h1JZ9Eary0M/s640/blogger-image--318215511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c3AO1zPV4ac/WKmOCBrX_aI/AAAAAAAAE_A/h1JZ9Eary0M/s640/blogger-image--318215511.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I stamped the moth (Designs by Ryn) and sentiment (Dina Wakley) with Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The moth got some colour with the same acrylics I used in the background. I adhered the sentiment on the side of the panel, kind of as a bonus detail for someone who cares to take a second look at the project. I love the contrast of the fabric and metal!</div>

Posting for the challenge at <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/01/wild-our-mixed-media-moods.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Media Moods</a>. They have a beautiful moodboard, from which I took the deep wine red colour, texture, fabric/threads and black and white florals. I'm also posting for the <a href="http://vivalas.blogspot.fi/2017/02/time-for-februarys-challenge-think-of.html" target="_blank">VivaLasVegaStamps challenge</a> (used reds, oranges, pinks, purples, splatters, drips and drops, check their moodboard behind the link) and the <a href="http://craftstamper.blogspot.fi/2017/02/take-it-make-it-challenge-february.html" target="_blank">Craft Stamper take-it-make-it challenge</a> where anything with stamping goes.</div>

I made the background by scraping heavy body acrylic paints on a card with black gesso. I used some texture paste and heat embossed it with sparkly pink embossing powder. I didn't like the effect (it turned somewhat silvery) and continued with the acrylic paint, making it thick layers and continuing with the palette knife. I mostly let the paint airdry, even though the heat gun gave some lovely bubbles (when I tried the heat embossing). <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">The embossing powder still shows, but just as a gritty texture, which I like. All the stamps I used are from VivaLasVegaStamps: the lovely detailed flower in the foreground , the ledger and some botanicals and a plate number (the plate with the melanthium vulgari) in the background. </span></div>

The layout and text are inspired by Wanderlust 2017, the colours inspired by the <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/01/wild-our-mixed-media-moods.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Media moodboard</a> (reds, black and white, flowers) and <a href="https://art-journal-journey.blogspot.fi/2017/02/fifty-shades-of-red.html" target="_blank">Art Journal Journey</a> (50 shades of red). Both calling to get me of my comfort zone. I have two drawers full of acrylic paints, and managed to find one red tube!<br />

<br />
I started with gesso and spread squirts of red, orange and pink paints with a spatula and smooched the pages together. The red became a bit more dominant than I had thought, but I like it. I stamped flowers on book paper (Stampotique flower cube and Jofy from Paperartsy), fussy cut them and some leave from the leftover paper and adhered with gel medium. Doodles with sharpie pens... and spring stamped with the Everything Art letters from Paperartsy.</div>

<div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sfI01sWaCgI/WJs7qbleuhI/AAAAAAAAE-Y/GRzq0mm8saE/s640/blogger-image-1573401695.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sfI01sWaCgI/WJs7qbleuhI/AAAAAAAAE-Y/GRzq0mm8saE/s640/blogger-image-1573401695.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
We've had some remarkable foggy days lately. Usually the air in winter is quite dry, and you don't have fog. But at the end of January, the fog was so strong, it was as if the air itself was white (along with the frost that had stuck on everything. I decided to try just drawing with black and using thinned out white paint to make the background gradually dissappear. I really like the second phase shown under, and if I could roll backward, I might stop there... but at least I have a picture of it!<br />
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I tried a bit of journaling, but I didn't like it so I covered it with white paint. The bubbled turned up when I heated the embossing powder (my altered book has pages glued together... see starting post here.)<br />

It's the first time I've ever paid for online classes, and this will continue all year long. I decided to alter an old book for the classes, and I now have a few spreads done. Here's the first one. I have decided to try and do a bit of crafting EVERY DAY. Hope it works out!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ltdV1QN07EI/WJdCJB5DfXI/AAAAAAAAE8M/scuzC0u2OiM/s640/blogger-image-1865126510.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ltdV1QN07EI/WJdCJB5DfXI/AAAAAAAAE8M/scuzC0u2OiM/s640/blogger-image-1865126510.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I thinned out the first third of the book, cutting out the middle two of every four pages and gluing the remaining pages together. I'll continue thinning it as I work forward, if I have a bulk of pages left at the end of the year, I'll make a niche... but if I end up filling the book, that's fine too :) here you can see the thinned part. The darker strip at the bottom of the page is were the leftovers of the cut out pages are glued in between two whole pages. I used a moist glue to begin with and the pages warped quite a bit... so I changed to a stick glue (of course burnished thoroughly!) To be seen if it has an effect on what I can do with the spreads!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

I'm posting it for the VivaLasVegaStamps challenge, check the moodboard and links <a href="http://vivalas.blogspot.fi/2017/01/ring-in-new-year-with-challenge.html" target="_blank">here</a> (inspired by foliage, nature, bugs, wings, numbers, script, invoice, background stamps, tan, black, white, brown, distressed, grungy and Corrie's lovely butterflies in <a href="http://vivalas.blogspot.fi/2017/01/she-flies-with-her-own-wings.html" target="_blank">this DT-post</a>). I'm also linking to the challenge at <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/01/wild-our-mixed-media-moods.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Media Moods</a>. Their previous moodboard had lovely rusty bits and bobs, and that's when I started building the dragonfly. The new moodboard has wings, copper flower stems and fibres, so all in all the result is using everything but the magenta colours. All the stamps I used are favourites from VivaLasVegaStamps.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I0_zk1IaiaE/WISnr2dWhsI/AAAAAAAAE68/N_SW8TX0xyQ/s640/blogger-image-377288502.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I0_zk1IaiaE/WISnr2dWhsI/AAAAAAAAE68/N_SW8TX0xyQ/s640/blogger-image-377288502.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I like to collect rusty bits that I run into outdoors, and this nail is one of those... I used pliers to straighten it a bit. The wings of the dragonfly are from "girl with wings". I stamped the wings twice on acetate, fussy cut them and tried to adhere them to the nail with gel medium. I wanted them on top of the nail, like on a real dragonfly. It didn't work, but they attached to each other, which was a step in the right direction. The next step was Glossy Accents, which seems to have done a good enough job. The fibres have been adhered with gel medium and once that was dry, the dragonfly was stuck down with some rolled glue dots.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The background is cardboard with a layer of gesso. I stamped the Invoice and Numbers -stamps with Archival ink. This Tree Circle stamp is one of my first VLVS stamps! I stamped it with Versamark and embossed it with WOW Copper Pearl embossing powder. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
A last photo of the whole piece. Love it! And by the way, I bought one of those bright light- lamps... I'm overjoyed to be able to take pictures like this without daylight :) </div>

At first I thought I might not even have three projects to show, but actually I did... I even got to pick and choose! Here they are, in no particular order: a set of ATC:s and two cards.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Joining in the <a href="http://countryviewchallenges.blogspot.fi/2017/01/january-2017-anything-goes.html" target="_blank">Country View January challenge</a> and the <a href="http://craftstamper.blogspot.fi/2017/01/take-it-make-it-challenge-january.html" target="_blank">Craft Stamper "Take it Make it" challenge</a>. Both are running with anything goes, and that's great for getting rid of some bits and bobs that have sat in the WIP pile for too long :) I'm also joining in the moodboard challenge at <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2016/12/our-mixed-media-moods-canvas-duo.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Media Moods</a>, because it made me remember these pieces and dig them out. The Craft Stamper demands stamping in their challenge. Well, I haven't actually stamped, but I've used a rubber stamp to make the focal piece... hope that counts!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J_ghE637w8Q/WHH7g0Q4AWI/AAAAAAAAE6k/kxdIutAM3xM/s640/blogger-image--1439427496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J_ghE637w8Q/WHH7g0Q4AWI/AAAAAAAAE6k/kxdIutAM3xM/s640/blogger-image--1439427496.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here are the pieces, all experiments from last summer. I played with Paperartsy infusions on several surfaces. The large background piece was made with Sage infusions sprinkled on thin wrinkly kitchen wrap. I spritzed with pearl spray and pulled prints onto inkjet photo paper. I love the hazy, misty looka and rusty spots from the walnut stain in the Infusions (fits perfectly with at least parts of the OMM mood board). The small paper is the same infusion dripped onto the photo paper and rinsed away with water. The walnut stain rinses of and the intensity of the colours depends on how long you wait before rinsing. The focal piece was made with a rubber stamp and gel medium. I spread the gel medium over the tree stamp (Paperartsy Urban Snapshots), left it to dry till the next day and peeled it of the stamp. Not only did the stamp become red and clean, but the negative silhouette really worked nicely to give a good relief. It's been spritzed with different sprays and perfect pearls etc. Not all of it stuck to the surface, so I can't really say what I would use to repeat the same effect...</div>

Check the lovely moodboard and other challenge entries <a href="http://vivalas.blogspot.fi/2016/12/december-monthly-challenge.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Since the colours are similar to the moodboard at <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2016/12/our-mixed-media-moods-canvas-duo.html" target="_blank">Our Mixed Moods</a>, I'm also posting for that too. It would of course be impossible to ride a hot air balloon in space, but... who cares? I'm really looking forward to everything we're headed for in 2017 :)<br />
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qXn_li5fhr0/WGkITv8T9hI/AAAAAAAAE5s/UF_daXISHB4/s640/blogger-image--101693682.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qXn_li5fhr0/WGkITv8T9hI/AAAAAAAAE5s/UF_daXISHB4/s640/blogger-image--101693682.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I used a mixed media background (scrap paper glued on scrap card and covered with gesso), sprayed with Dylusions Calypso Teal spray. The stamp is from Viva Las Vega Stamps and I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black. I was quite satisfied how well the image turned out, even though the background is uneven. I added texture paste through a star stencil and since the spray seeped into it, I coloured over the stars with a paint marker.<br />

Here are my Christmas cards for this year. I'm posting them for the<a href="http://countryviewchallenges.blogspot.fi/2016/12/december-2016-christmas.html" target="_blank"> Country View December challenge</a> (Christmas) and the <a href="http://wowembossingpowder.blogspot.fi/2016/12/december-challenge-and-last-months.html" target="_blank">WOW embossing powders challenge</a> (winter, links in the comments). I wanted to do mixed media and use some scraps... and the results are quite cool, though my husband said they look like wedding invitations!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5TYLEeoHpq8/WF04M6mVguI/AAAAAAAAE34/Vs-4kIvXM54/s640/blogger-image-707922416.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5TYLEeoHpq8/WF04M6mVguI/AAAAAAAAE34/Vs-4kIvXM54/s400/blogger-image-707922416.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">the joy of their children</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
I layered down book pages, off white cotton fabric. Sewed around them and added white texture paste (Aleene's glitter snow), heat embossing and a small sentiment. Each card is different, because the sentiments are all cut from the book pages. The book has nothing to do with Christmas, and I was surprised how many suitable sentiments I was able to find. Most of the sentiments got some white behind them to stabilize the layers.</div>

Here are the cards. I used some underpapers with embossing as backgrounds.<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both;">
The matamata turtle looks rather weird. It lurks underwater and swallows small fish, check <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdki3QQy0aI" target="_blank">this little video here</a>. The illuminated netdevil is an angler fish, one of those deep sea ones, but besides the lure, this has a bush-like thing dangling under it's chin (the Finnish name means bush-crott). Both the lure on the head and the bush are luminous, obviously to attract food... And this is the female, males are tiny and attach themselves as parasites to the females abdomen! Here are the backs of the cards with the definition texts.</div>

I played with infusions (and blue bister, because I don't have a blue infusion) on ink jet photo paper, bleach and some Everything Art stamps. I washed over the paper with Sunset Beach (it gives a decent skin colour), bleached out the parts I wanted white and added more colour with a watercolour brush. Just quickly showing the pictures, got to take the dog out for a walk!

I managed to miss the I -challenge, which really bugs me, but I made the card anyhow... would hate to be missing one! My I is for the great tinamou (isotinami, "iso" means large in Finnish) and my Y is for the nocturnal currassow (yösaku or yöhokko, "yö" means night in Finnish). Two South-American birds. Here they are, I'm posting for <a href="http://thecraftbarnblog.blogspot.fi/2016/11/alphadictionary-challenge-2016_27.html" target="_blank">the Craft Barn Alpha challenge "Y"</a> and the <a href="http://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2016/11/2016-23-bleach-techniques-challenge.html" target="_blank">Paperartsy challenge (bleach).</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xoCn1PCuZcw/WE0EZC85e9I/AAAAAAAAE3E/PPn21cJkS-Q/s640/blogger-image-1393049543.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xoCn1PCuZcw/WE0EZC85e9I/AAAAAAAAE3E/PPn21cJkS-Q/s400/blogger-image-1393049543.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I sewed some scrap paper on the front of the cards and used Distress inks on the back. I used faux bleaching (stamped with water) and really liked the effect so much, that the scraps on the front of the card started looking ugly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m8rG4-Cb_fg/WE0Eb7ys-gI/AAAAAAAAE3I/mX0V7VbTB7c/s640/blogger-image-1508192043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m8rG4-Cb_fg/WE0Eb7ys-gI/AAAAAAAAE3I/mX0V7VbTB7c/s400/blogger-image-1508192043.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I tore the fronts off, added gesso, infusions and some stamping. They got a bit warped, but the frame is quite cool.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As with my previous cards, I picked my animals from a wildlife encyclopedia that I've been cutting to pieces. The tinamou is a pheasant-like bird, that has beautiful glossy eggs in different colours. Check <a href="http://www.natgeocreative.com/photography/1369608" target="_blank">this pic</a> from National Geographic! The nocturnal curassow is actually a day-active bird that happens to "sing" by night, hence the name. If you want to listen to the call (a bit like an owls hohoo), click the "listen to recording" on <a href="http://avibase.bsc-eoc.org/species.jsp?avibaseid=B4CC6C9FCD5671A1" target="_blank">this page</a>. </div>

I really haven't had time for any crafting lately, and I guess the only reason I'm doing these is that I would hate to quit without having the whole alphabet done. I once again searched my wildlife encyclopedia for animals with weird names... though I guess I've heard of vikunjas before. So welcome on a short trip to South America. Starting with the challenge letters <a href="http://thecraftbarnblog.blogspot.fi/2016/10/alphadictionarychallenge.html" target="_blank">V (challenge ending tonight)</a> and <a href="http://thecraftbarnblog.blogspot.fi/2016/10/alphadictionary-challenge.html" target="_blank">U (challenge opened today)</a>. Oh,how I hate to have to take picrures under artificial light, but the sun set an hour earlier today than yesterday (and it's been gloomy all week, so lights are on anyway!)<br />

Both of the backgrounds are age-old masterboards that I have lying in a drawer. Not much to say otherwise. The Vikuña has just brayered paints and some stamping with "aztec doll" stamps from Rubber Dance, though I guess the Peru/north Chile is Inca area, not Aztec... The Unau is called the Linnaeus two-toed sloth, and it's background just has paints, both brayered and stencilled. Here are the backs of the cards with some info about the animals... but you could just as well check wikipedia!<br />
